Salamander, were an 80's progressive heavy metal rock band, based mainly from the Pontypridd area of South Wales. Pontypridd being just about 12 miles north of Cardiff, at the start of the Rhondda valleys, from which hailed a number of famous recording artists including the likes of Tom Jones and Racing Cars.
The band were, Pete McIntosh (lead vocals), Chris (Mavis) Davies (lead guitar), Neil Parker (lead and rhythm guitars), Phil (Flop) Scourfield (bass virtuoso) and Phil (Wilf) Ellis (monster drummer).
As stated above, the band were mainly from Pontypridd and the surrounding area except for Flop (Phil Scourfield) who came from Hirwaun, near the "heads of the valleys".
Salamander had quite a following in their day, playing such places as the "Boot" in Aberdare, The Four Firs, Bogie's, The Lion's Den and the obiquitous and almost infamous Tonypandy Naval Club.
Unfortunately, the band finally succumbed to the various pressures from within and without of the band, and lets face it, most, if not all rock/metal bands during this era (early to mid 80's) had a hard time due to the emergence of punk/rock music.
